Default External Hard drives seem to be USb 2.0 recommend me one ?

All I seem to be finding is Usb 2.0 hard drives no firewire support.
firewire is on its way out apparently ?

Can anyone recommend a good Ex Hard drive thats cheap.

and will pro tools eventually support 2.0 and even 3.0 when its out ?

The OWC drives are great and have interfacing for usb, firewire400 and 800 as well as esata. They also use the oxford chipset that digidesign recommends.

You can buy them at www.macsales.com and they are very affordable.

There's no difference in sound quality using an external drive, but you will have better system reliability and higher track count.

I'm not sure how to help you in obtaining a drive in the UK. Can you get Western Digital? They were making mybook home premium editions that had firewire 400.

FireWire drives UK - Google Search

Most major retailers only deal in cheap USB junk with high profit margins. If you want to find quality FW stuff you'll need to find a specialty shop or an online retailer.

I bought one just recently from OyenDigital. I thought the price reasonable.Very happy with it. Here's the link. Remember to get the 7200 rpm option and also firewire 800 is not supported for MBox2 Pro systems.
