Default Promting lack of memory on PC with adequate memory! Any tips?

My system is a PC P3 667MHz, with 384M RAM, however after loading the software and completing any application, PT prompts error6008, basically a lack of memory. If anyone could offer any advice, it would be much appreciated!

I had that problem once when I had to re-format my hardrive and re-install PTF, it turned out the swap file wasn't big enough. Used Norton utilities to defrag and optimize my swap file and the problem went away.

Check your system.ini vcache settings and Windows' virtual memory settings.
www.tascam.com gives great info on how to tailor these to your specific needs, not just 'plug in 25400' like so many of these generic computer optimization guides. There are at least 5 other sites with similar pro audio info at evilchopper.com/linkses.htm
Clear out all programs running in the background, especially anti-virus, that may be using memory.
Also check if all your ram chips have same bus speed.
Good luck
Chopper

just look at the sticks of ram inside, if your computer was recently purchased new, it's probably not an issue, but I've had a few ram sticks turn out to be pc100s when they were labeled pc133s. The slow and inconsistent performance was confusing at first, till I noticed the stickers 'pc100'and then peeled them up.
Now that I've got pc133's the PIII800 runs like a champ.
good luck
Chopper

Thanks evilchopper. I checked the ram, and yes one was 100Mhz and the other 133Mhz. I removed the 100, leaving 256M installed. Alas, no joy again! Im thinking something/someone just doesnt want me to run PT! My last thought is to check the performance of my ram to make sure its working properly. If anyone knows of any software which does this (or any other way)I would appreciate it.
