i had this happen once on my rig. OS X Yosemite. PT HD Native 12.5.

the culprit in my case was having plugins in a subfolder within the plugins folder (so my other engineer can easily move all his plugs in and out as needed).

moving his subfolder to "unused" fixed it.

though incidentally...it's never been a problem since. only that one time.

any chance you have something like that going on?

Take a screen shot.

I have the exact same problem with PT 12.5. I'm running an Aurora 16 and an Aurora 8, each tied to an AES 16e card (no thurnderbolt). I'm running Windows 10 on a very capable machine. The issue doesn't happen running PT 12.4, but PT 12.5 instantly shows 100% CPU usage before I even load a project.

Have anyone contacted Lynx and seen if they see a similar behavior?

Hi Andre,

Thanks for posting. You saved me a bunch of work. I have an AES card and was considering putting it in the computer. I won't bother. It looks like this is a PT 12.5 problem with Lynx. Or a Lynx problem with PT 12.5.

I posted to the Lynx forum. I'll add your information regarding PT 12.4 vs 12.5 to the forum.

Don

Thanks Don. I did head over to the Lynx forum and saw your post. Hopefully this is something that one of the two companies can easily fix. Until then its 12.4.

Andre,

I went back to PT 12.4 and everything is behaving as expected. So for now I guess we are both stuck at PT 12.4.

David A. Hoatson, Chief Software Engineer for Lynx, did respond in the Lynx Support Forum to the problem report...

"It is working OK with PT12.4 but PT12.5 has a problem, I'm not sure Lynx will be able to solve an issue with ProTools. What does AVID have to say about this?

We have tested with PT12.5 and have not seen anything like what you are describing."

It sounds like this isn't a widespread problem. If we can find a similarity with our environments perhaps we can help Avid/Lynx fix this. I am running on a new Pro Tools PC built Rack-Mount Computer with an Intel i7-5930K on a ASUS X99a MB, 32GB, 4x1TB SSD drives, ASUS Thunderbolt EX II Dual, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Graphics running at 3840x2160, Windows 10 PRO, Lynx Aurora 16 with LS-TB). I guess we can rule out the Thunderbolt and the AES interfaces.

Have you reported this to Avid?

If anyone is successfully running PT 12.5 with the Lynx Aurora can append and provide system details it would be a great help.

Thanks,
Don

Hey Don, I'm running Win10 Pro on an I7-4930 (ivy bridge, 6 core). It has 32 GB ram, 2 solid state drives and 3 spinners, nVidia gtx 770,
and an Asus Sabertooth x79. My system sound is provided by a Digi 003 rack, with all Lynx audio outs disabled for the OS.

Ive got an AES16e connected to an Aurora 16 and ADAT expansion card. My other AES16e is connected to an Aurora 8, Dbox, and rackmount CD burner.

The problem for me occurred at all buffer settings. I didn't try to limit the number of available channels in PT to see if that helps. I didn't spend a lot of time playing with/reinstalling the ASIO drivers before reverting back to 12.4. What else have you tried?

Sounds like the problem lies with the Lynx driver. My setup is slightly different, but same problems with high CPU usage in 12.5 with 1 track in the session (constant -9173 errors, but 12.4 works perfect).

My setup:
Aurora16->AES16e
i7 965 with 12 gigs of RAM
Windows 10 64 bit Home
