Default RAM size problem with PTLE (have 4GB installed)

hey all,

I have 4GB of RAM installed on a Win XP PRO SP2 PT LE 7.1 machine (Athlon 64X2 3800+ - Asus A8n-E - 4x1 GB DDR 400 Samsung RAM modules - ...) and can't seem to load anymore sampled-instruments (in Kontakt2 or other Virtual Instruments) past 1.5GB of RAM allocated to PT LE.
I am looking for a way to go past that limit and load more instruments, could anybody help me ?

Thank You

Not sure, but I read somewhere that even though you can load 4G RAM, you can only use 2 unless it hacked or configured properly. Something like that.

Good post. I'm planning on running 4GB myself, but have heard that although you can't run it at 400MHZ it should still work. I'm a big K2 user also.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Yes, it's a Windows thing. It's the same for every app out there. And even if you hack it, the application dies soon after the memory usage goes above 2.5G or so. Oracle databases are the most notorious to suffer from this "feature".

Yeah, Win Xp only recognizes 3GB.

My problem is elsewhere though. The thing is that the Pro Tools process won't exceed approximately 1600 MB on my PC. Meaning that once I have loaded about 1 GB of multi sampled instruments and the Pro Tools process is taking around 1600 MB by itself, I can't load anymore instrument.
A process should go up to 2048 MB theoratically in Win XP but it does not even go near that on my Win XP SP2 PC.

Does anyone know what I should try to do ?

thanks
