Default MBox 3 sample rate

Can someone please confirm that the 24/96 sample rate on the MBox 3 is for the mic pres as well as SPDIF?? Cheers!

Your question doesn't quite make sense. The AD and DA converters in the Mbox 3 go up to 24/96 regardless of whether it's preamps, line ins, or whatever. Meaning you can record something at 24/96 whether it's from the preamps or line ins.

Sorry, I think you've misunderstood what I asked.... Avid have not published specifications for the unit (that I can find) - boxes such as the 003 go up to 24/96, but only 24/48 for ADAT.... the mbox has both mic/line pres and SPDIF (which doesnt go thru the converters) - as the "up to 24/96" is suitably vague enough to be worthy of a used car salesman I was asking whether this sample rate was for the mic pres, or are they a lower sample rate & the mbox will thruput SPDIF at 24/96 sample rate... (especially as the 2 mic pre 24/96 boxes I've been looking at from presonus, focusrite etc are firewire - any with usb are only 24/48!!)

Thanks for the reply anyway!

You can download the manual from the website. It seems pretty straightfoward to me. This is a quote from it, in the features section:

"24-bit A/D and D/A converters, supporting
sample rates up to 96kHz."

I'd be curious to know what interfaces you've seen that have the limitations you mentioned.

The limitation of adat on some interfaces is a limitation of adat, not the interface. Some interfaces add SMUX capability to get a higher sample rate, but that's not the same as standard adat.

Anyway, all indications are that this is a converter (analog to digital, digital to analog) that goes up to 96k.

Cheers, was just skeptical because there isn't a spec on the Avid website at all that states explicitly the AD-DA converters are 24/96 - in fact they don't have a spec page for it at all!!

PT LE max sample rate is 96k - you can SPDIF thru the mbox at 96k without touching the AD-DA converters in the mbox (so the mbox "supports up to 24/96") - the AD-DA converters can be 16/44.1 & they can still claim the mbox support up to 24/96! That's why I'm just being cautious - I want a 2 mic pre box that does 24/96 - every other option I've found is firewire.... I see enough adspeak at work to know that if its not stated explicitly chances are I'm being duped.
