Default Is This Normal? Latency Issue

I have just set up PT. I am running OSX Tiger on a G5 1.8 single processor with 2 gigs ram. I have 2 internal Serial ATA drives, 1 for system and apps, 1 for data. I have a DIGI002R and a KORG TRITON STUDIO. I am using the MIDI IO from the 002.

Unless I set the HARDWARE BUFFER SIZE in PLAYBACK ENGINE to 128 or 256, I get a slight and extremely annoying delay when the midi track is played back, even though the midi data has been quantanized and lands exactly on the beats in the grid. Is this normal and what are the other consequences of have the buffer set that low?

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

it is normal to have latency.... you know... the time the processor processes the signal in and out so you can hear it...

but there are some ways to have it set to minimum.... don't know with the 002... but with the M-box... just mute the channel in wich you record so you hear the in signal with ZERO latency

If you are using a plug in as the instrument for the midi track, set the latency to -512 in the Windows>display midi latency tab. it always works for me.
