Pro Tools 8 and the H/W Buffer Size (problems with 7.4.2 and Leopard)
The following is a message i wrote to Scott Church, and was wondering if anybody else is experiancing the problems i am facing with Leopard, and the lastest Pro Tools 7.4.2
"Hey Scott! I am very excited about pro tools 8, and you doing videos to show off some of the features to the public is great, and makes me more excited about the upcoming release. i've heard that pro tools 8 is a leopard only application, and it wont run on tiger. if this is in fact true i have a question or two regarding the matter. i currently run my pro tools on my 003,Version 7.4. on Tiger, and on separate HD, i run pro tools 7.4.2 on leopard. My main concern in Pro Tools 8, is the the H/W Buffer Size. i can do 'medium' size project with the H/W Buffer size at 128 (on the Tiger partition) and the editing/recording/mixing is flawless... BUT! If i were to open that same session on my Leopard Partition (7.4.2) The Project constantly stutters and stops at 128, and i have to bump it up to 1024 to have it run somewhat smooth on my Leopard Drive. You can see the concern i'm having for Pro Tools 8. My Question is, Will Pro Tools 8, run more effecnt and smooth on Mac os Leopard, than the current version 7.4.2? I have a Mac Pro 2.44 ghz Dual Core, 6 gigs of ram. if you could give me any sort of insight, or information i would greatly appropriate it."

Re: Pro Tools 8 and the H/W Buffer Size (problems with 7.4.2 and Leopard)
Most likely you have plug-ins installed on the Leopard side that either aren't compatible with Leopard yet, or you're running older versions that need to be updated.
Pro Tools 8 will run very similarly to 7.4.2 as far as VI's and plug-ins are concerned. There are a few improvements, but it still requires that you use plug-ins that are compatible with Leopard. |
