Default Midi recording bug

recording (in overdub mode) on midi track.
As soon as I press record PT wipes out everything on the track. Of course what I am recording at that time is fine, but everything from that point on is wipped out. WTF!
7.3 is the buggiest version of PT ever.
The Midi zoom bug is killing me too.
Please respond DIGI!

Sounds like you don't have MIDI merge enabled.

That's not a bug, it's an oversight on your part.

Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly enough.
1. midi overdub mode= Midi merge (Sorry, I'm old school)

2. as soon as I press record.. a new midi region is generated for the length of the entire session and this new region (in an instant, i.e. I don't wait for my notes to be recorded over) wipes out all midi data previously recorded on that track.

3. This is very likely a bug, If you have eperienced this, please reply.

I can't reproduce this at all - I'm on 7.3.1/HD.

Have you tried trashing preferences? Also, try this:

Go to MacHD>Users>your account>Library>Preferences>By Host and trash 'com.apple.midi.a bunch of numbers and letters.plist'.

Go to MacHD>Users>your account>Library>Preferences and trash 'com.apple.audio.audiomidisetup.plist'.

Empty the trash and restart, then see if everything is working.

If you're unable to resolve it, please post more info on your system, including a step by step of how you're reproducing the problem as well as any variables that may be a factor.

Thanks for responding.

I tried trashing prefs.. Same thing.

Let me tell you about my system
HD3, PT 7.3 (maybe I should go to 7.3.1)
Mac g5 Dual 2.25, 4.5 GB RAM

Sound makers in use are, Reason, and East West's Symphonic orchestra and a few audio tracks.

I have also figured out that this happens on instrument tracks and MIDI tracks and there must be a region later on the track. If there is a region right at the point where I'm recording it works just fine. Although the same trouble happens when the track is in note display.

Here is the catch.. I can only make this problem happen in one session.. Even if I import all the tracks from my problem session into a new session it works fine. ARGH!

Is this session some how currupted?
Any other ideas?

Thanks
Aaron

Then you've experienced your first session corruption. Congratulations!

I've only had one session go corrupt on me (that I'm aware of) over the years, and it drove me nuts.

So, import all tracks into a new session, and forget about the old one.
