Or, as has been said, turn down the master fader.

Also, the 'group all and go to the end of the session' method will affect things like parallel compression thresholds, subgroup levels (where the individual tracks of a group are reduced, as well as the group fader), fx balances (send level is appropriately reduced assuming it's a post fader send, but the return fader is also reduced!).

Valid points but not show stoppers. Re. the FX returns, that's why I leave them out of my "all' group.

I know this is old, but I need to make something clear about the procedure of grouping faders that albee1952 described.
I tried it but
it will totally alter the tracks which are sub-mixed to an aux and treated with compression. ...

In protools 9 or any other daw with no VCA's, there is no way to turn down all audio/instruments faders without something being altered.

Audio tracks that have sends on them (like on my mixes) are also sub-mixed to aux tracks treated with compression.
If I turn down the aux track, send levels are altered, if I turn down the individual faders, the input to the compressor is altered..

This is something I would like you people to help me here. All the time I am stuck with what I described above. It's like I am playing ping pong with myself.

I know that VCA's are post everything and as such it is very easy to turn down faders without altering your mix. But I have none in PT 9.

Anyone with some light??

THANKS
