Re: Dumping 1in. Analog to Digi 001
You should get what you put in. The a/d-converters arent bad, but people have complained they sound a bit harsh. But if you come from tape, you should still retain stuff like tape-compression, tape eq etc.
If you want better converters, you could get a converter that outputs in spdif optical or RCA or adat-lightpipe. That way you dont have to use the a/d converters on the digi001.

Re: Dumping 1in. Analog to Digi 001
Make sure you have a good A/D converter and go in the S/PDIF input on 17/18 of the 001. And in the Hardware settings set the sync to S/PDIF so the 001 clocks with the A/D (assuming the A/D clock is better than the 001 clock).
Good Luck |

I second the use of outboard A-D converters.

If you have a strong signal put it in Inputs 3-8.It should retain quality.Use very good cables, also.

Dumping 1in. Analog to Digi 001
I'm going in to dump from 1 inch analog tape to my Digi 001. Anyone have some words of wisdom/advice for this project? Will I be able to retain the quality of the tape or will the digi sterilize the sound? Thanks for your help.

Re: Dumping 1in. Analog to Digi 001
I converted my 11 songs in a pro studio from 2" to digital.it was from otari 2" to apogee converters by protools software,to a firewire hard drive finally.the results were outstanding, just like i've recorded them 5 years ago.the quality was the same to my ears(good).
btw,it was done 24 tracks at a time with one pass for each song.and it cost me $140 for all 11 songs. some studios wanted to charge me up to$800,so if you look around you'll find the one thats reasonable.it all depends on how many songs you have i guess.and its a good idea not to experiment with it yourself if you have invested time and money and how precious the material is, just in case. good luck. |
