Eucon Artist Mix and ProTools 7 won't communicate
We just purchased the Avid Eucon Artist Mix controller to give me fader and control surface functionality on our ProTools HD 7.4.1 running on a MacPro 3.1 with OS X 10.5.8. Eucon is loaded on the computer and recognized there but PT won't. The installation documentation indicates that prior to PT9 it needs to utilize the HUI (Midi controller). But there is no documentation for how to do this in earlier versions. In the setup/peripherals/midi controllers tab I have selected #1 - HUI - Euphonix Midi Port 1 for receive and send and 8 channels but it isn't working. Anyone able to help?

Re: Eucon Artist Mix and ProTools 7 won't communicate
Return it while you still can.
I tried for over 8 hours to get an Artist Control to work with my rig, trying all the known work arounds and different EuCon software versions with no luck. It worked about 10% of the time, and rest of the time it would half work or not connect at all. I had 0% confidence that it would work again after shutting it off. In this day and age, a control surface should require minimal setup and just work. Like the D-Command, C24 etc. Ever since AVID got into the EuCon thing, their control surface integration has been horrible. Why do you think the S6 is taking so long to be released? The software side of it is a mess. Just my opinion… gH |

Re: Eucon Artist Mix and ProTools 7 won't communicate
Any suggestion to a reasonable fader control surface for this setup? Can't go expensive yet. That will be coming soon enough. In the mean time though I have to get some work done.

Re: Eucon Artist Mix and ProTools 7 won't communicate
I just ordered a D-Command, that and the C24 are the only ones I know of that are solid and you can actually get work done using.
Otherwise you'll be spending a lot of time rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling EuCon software. gH |

Re: Eucon Artist Mix and ProTools 7 won't communicate
You need to open system preferences in OSx,
click the Eucon tab (down the bottom), then drag the applications you want to use via HUI into the big white space. You need to do this to enable HUI functionality. |

I've done that "Basketcase" and now the eucon doesn't shown up in the control surfaces list and it still doesn't work.

Try this: 1. Go to your main hard drive /Library/Preferences" folder...NOT your user library folder. 2. Do a "get info" on the folder (Command I or Right Click and Get Info) 3. Change the "everyone" permission to r+w and apply to permissions to all subfolders. 4a. Open the AUDIO MIDI SETUP app (in your Apps/Utilities folder). If the EUPHONIX (or AVID) MIDI device is not greyed out, go to step 6. 4b. If it is greyed out, select it and hit DELETE. Then do a reboot. 5. After rebooting, verify in the AUDIO MIDI SETUP app that the EUPHONIX MIDI device is no longer greyed out. 6. Open your Euphonix/Avid Control pannel and add the application. Do the reboot and the software should show up. |

Got it. It turns out the network port was turned off in system prefs.
