Default Calculate Waveform on Network Volumes

Is seems broken!

I store alot of samples on a network RAID and search them in my Workspace Catalog i created from that directory.

However, even though i've calculated the waveforms they are outgreyed (no waveforms) and won't show unless i play them or press "Update Database for selection".

But that kinda defeats the purpose. Any workarounds ?!?

ProTools doesn't work with network storage or RAID drives, EXCEPT as a transfer device. Since it can't 'record' the waveform information with the file, you're not seeing it. Also, ProTools 8 has a newer HD waveform that must redraw EVERYTHING to get it to that quality. I'd recommend getting all of our samples to a local drive and have PT recalculate everything overnight, then move them back. That's the only way it's going to happen for you, IMHO.

Default Re: Calculate Waveform on Network Volumes

I'm only talking about waveform information in the Workspace browser.
These are not files inside a Session, rather previewing my Sound Effects Library in the Workspace.

It's kind of handy to have SFX on Network and just Drag'n'drop to your local session regardless of which studio you're in.
Works great but workspace won't show waveforms for network volumes!! (Very annoying for SFX with multiple effects in one file for example)

But i'm guessing it works about the same, maybe i can fool PT8 by moving the Waveform.wfm to another place?

Or copying the entire library to a local drive and calculate those waveforms ?

I have about 200GB on SFX from all of our libraries stored on a LOCAL drive, and it works like it should.

I'd suggest you try moving them to create the waveforms, then move back.
