Default monitor hiss

hello, i just bought a new pair of KRK v6 series 2 and i noticed a very low hiss from the both speakers. the hiss is not loud at all but i can notice it when nothing is playing. is there something wrong? do all speakers do this? am i just worried for nothing? i'm going from my 001 into my mackie to my speakers using 1/4 inch plugs (tip sleeve). thanks

I had the same problem with mine. Write them an email or give them a call, it's a known issue. They told me there was a bad batch of V series that went out to stores. They sent me a new pair a few days later, great customer service.

wow, how bad was it in your speakers? i mean i could just be a little jumpy and i don't want to send back a perfectly good set of speakers. the hiss is hardly audible, but there.

If you're monitoring digital audio from the 001, try using balanced cables from the 001 to the monitor speakers. If you're monitoring the analogue audio-out from the Mac via analogue inputs 3-4 on the 001, balanced monitor cables alone may not be enough, since you'll get some noise from the unbalanced cable between the Mac and the 001. and the only fix I know of for that is a ground-loop isolation transformer. If you're monitoring digital audio via the 001, the speakers ought to be silent when nothing is playing, but you should be using balanced cables.

The hiss I had wasn't related to audio cables whatsoever.
Just plug in the speaker and the hiss was there, not very loud but audible enough to be annoying.
It also wasn't a power outlet issue, it was the monitors, plain and simple, and they know it, and they'll send you a new pair.

Yes, that's the same problem.
I would at least tell GC about it first, by now I'm sure they're aware of the issue, perhaps they can do an in-house trade.

You'll be quite happy with your new pair, they're awesome monitors!

Besides a set of Dynaudio BM6A's which I wouldn't say no to, these have been absolutely great monitors so far (7 months), best ones under $1K, imo.
