Re: US2400-should or shouldnt?Control-Can I do bet
I bought a Command8 against the warnings of friends and have had no complaints since getting it. Plug-in implementation is excellent - probably the best of anything costing less than a ProControl. More faders would be nice but it's rare that I need more than 8 at a time.

Re: US2400-should or shouldnt?Control-Can I do bet
Hi there
Just got back from trying out the US2400 (and a little bit of the DM3200). The unit works very well with PT. Very responsive and accurate faders, and pans. The faders a smooth and worked flawlessly in all the different automation modes I tried! The transport section is a little toy like (nothing wrong with it though), the rest of the unit(scrub, flip, select, solo, mute etc.) works just fine. Of course there is the thing with the missing scribble strip. I did´nt see this as a problem on this tryout. I was "only" working with 32 tracks, this could prove to be problematic, when working on larger sesssioens with alot of tracks. But I guess this is a minor detail, which has workarounds! Tascam has released some software called, SoftLCD. It displays 24 channels of data sent by your DAW app on your computer monitor. "just like a giant hardware scribble strip" (taken from the tascam site). Unfortunately I did´nt get a chance to work with the joystick, since I tried it on a PT LE 6.4 platform. Installing the unit should be very easy, when you have downloaded the HUI emultation. Just put your USB cable from your computer to the US2400, set it up to HUI emulation under peripherals, and the unit is ready. I must say that if I had the luxury of buying this unit for 800 USD, I would go ahead, right away. Unfortunately the US2400 costs about 20.000 Danish Kroner.Which again is about 3200 USD.... NO KIDDING! I dont know if the joystick will work in PT HD 7, since the cs10 protocol (which the joystick needs) has not been qualified. Anybody has some info on this??? As I said I tryed out the DM 3200. This looks and feels very pro. The Mixer is alot bigger then I exspected. The HUI emulation worked just as good as on the US2400, and it had a bunch of ins outs, efx, etc. Very cool and also very pretty looking unit! Hope this helps Regards Pindebraende |

Re: US2400-should or shouldnt?Control-Can I do better?
Thanks Pindebraende! Your notes are appreciated! That is a lot of $ for the 2400. Are you planing on keeping the piece?

Re: US2400-should or shouldnt?Control-Can I do better?
I have a Command 8 and am happy with it.
Originally I purchased a Behringer BCF2000 but it wasn't ready for Protools at that point (Mackie HUI drivers not written yet) Spent a few hours trying to configure it and then I finally gave up. Bought the Command 8 and loved that when I loaded the controller profile and plugged it in it just worked and has worked ever since. My suggestion is pay a little extra, get the Command 8 and get the Digidesign support instead of taking your chances with a third party item that could get orphaned if Digi decides to change their tune. The dealer mailed me today saying that since I mentioned the US price drop, they could sell the US2400 (demomodel) for a little over 2000 USD. I really dont know now. I´ll definitely wait buying anything until after NAMM. You never know. My only problem with choosing this unit is, that I dont know for how long it will be supported by Digi. The CS10 has not been qualified with PT, so you have to use the legacy midi controller. But what if they (digi) decide to remove this and not support this at all??? Then I will have a dead stick to no use in my transport section. If I knew otherwise, and if nothing new was coming within the next week or 2, I would buy the US2400 I think. Pindebraende |

Re: US2400-should or shouldnt?Control-Can I do better?
From the pictures, I like the small footprint & depth of the whole app. The faders & pan is what I miss most from the analog era.
With 2400 the only thing to move is the computer keyboard & the mouse. No computer monitors in front of the monitors. Briliant idea.

Re: US2400-should or shouldnt?Control-Can I do better?
I decided it be best to wait till after NAMM to make a decision. Not too long of a wait, maybe something great and new is gonna be announced. Let's hope!
