***Can 002 converters be custom upgraded anywhere?
Does anyone know if the stock converters in the 002 can be hot rodded in any way? Are there any geniuses out there doing this custom work?

Re: ***Can 002 converters be custom upgraded anywh
hopefully someone else can post following me :
but I did speak to a very skilled technician at work, and he said part of the problem with upgrading the unit is the convertors are built to match the clock. So you can't really upgrade them because it is kind of a software harmony you are messing with (i hope i remebered that correctly)... anyways he said the one thing you could do however that might help, (or might hurt), the problem is to upgrade any of the analog components in the convertor chain. Hopefully someone has already beat me to the reasearch and knows of someone doing mods already =) Cheers, scott

That would be cool if it could be done. Meanwhile we just bypass them with external mic pre's into the ADAT input. Some are bypassing on the way out by running SPDIF thru high quality D/A converters as well.

It would be very cool if it could be done. I have outboard Apogee converters. I just would like to have the 002's converters be of better qualty for road work where it's dificult to bring along the AD8000SE.

Re: ***Can 002 converters be custom upgraded anywh
The Best solution I came up with is this :
A) -Upgrade the filters and other analog components in the Digi002 -Since you cannot change the convertor chips or clock, just buy the lowest jitter clock you can afford. (Preferably better than a Apogee Mini-Me) B) Splurge and go PTHD, w/ a HD192 Interface (The clock+convertors are good enough for 97% of ppl) C) Forget about upgrading the 002 (Like I did) and remember that it caputers better sounds any day than a fostex 4 track. Cheers Guys, Good luck on capturing the sweet tones,
