First steps with MTRX Studio

Hello again Jeff. Another question. I noticed the other day when I working when I went to the monitor page of my iPad that the speakers were not showing up. All the other tabs in the EuControl app were working fine except the monitor tab. When I looked at the DADMan there was no signal in it. I was working fine and hearing everything fine in ProTools but no meter in the DADMan. I double checked that I was on the Dante Virtual Soundcard and I was. I quit everything then opened the DVSC, the Dante Controller, DADMan, the ProTools and still the same thing. Any idea why that is happening? I'm assuming I'm not seeing any monitoring on the EuControl app because I'm not seeing it in DADMan. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Certainly if you don’t have signal presence in DADman you are also not going to have it on the Avid Control Monitoring tab interface as well.

Right but any idea why I’m not seeing signal in DADMan if everything is locked. I didn’t change anything.

So you are monitoring the output of Pro Tools which is using DVS as a playback engine and you have audio but simply no metering in DADman or Avid Control?

Try simply quitting DADman and then re-launch having it auto-load your last monitor profile.

Hi folks, looking for some input.

I'm about to bite the bullet on either the MTRX Studio or the MTRX.

MTRX Studio is obviously priced better for me and it is a compelling purchase but I don't want to compromise on conversion quality- I want as good or better than I currently have.

I am currently running a Red 16 Line + 2xA16r's plus an X2P, with HDX in a 2019 Mac Pro.
My issue with the Red 16 Line is it isn't sample accurate for inserts.
Otherwise it is excellent.

How is the conversion quality with the Studio vs the MTRX?

Can we 100% confirm that hardware inserts work as expected?
I have a lot of outboard and want to be able to use parallel compression in inserts.

How is the fan noise?

I can't accurately tell you about inserts since I don't use any and I can't tell you about conversion quality expect I can guarantee you that you'd be hard pressed to tell any difference in a blind test. I can tell you that my unit is silent. I don't have it in a rack and maybe that helps but I don't hear it at all.

If you are looking for the ultimate conversion quality I would highly recommend going with Avid MTRX. The AD and DA converters are simply exceptional. MTRX Studio is also a great sounding box, however for quality and expansion capabilities, MTRX is superior.

Can you use Hardware Inserts? Absolutely. The only additional step required (from an HD IO for example) is to add the (documented) converter delay into the Hardware Insert Delay field in the IO Setup.

For both MTRX and MTRX Studio, if they are racked correctly with space above and below you should never hear the interface.
