Default Alternatives to 888

Now that the ADAT bridge is 24 bit, are there any 24 bit ADAT ADA interfaces that are cheaper? Something like a Lucid 8824? Is an ADAT bridge + A Lucid 8824 Cheaper/Better than an 888? Is there any way to get 24 bit into PT without buying a $3500 interface?

Thanks,
Matt

yes, there is. i use an 888/16 and an apogee rosetta 24/48.. aes/ebu to the 888 and i am getting 24 bit conversion into pt. of course, this only allows for 2 tracks at a time. the cheapest way to have a great setup for two track in would be an old 882/16 (used: $300-400) and a rosetta like mine. (new about $1,100), i think) spdif out from the rosetta into the 82/16 and you're rockin for $1,500, with a great masterclock for the system to boot.

Yes, but then you can only monitor at 16 bit.. which is okay I guess if you put a good dither on the master fader. But it's nice to mix and hear a high quality output.

Hey, Puntey! I am seriously looking at that solution. How would you rate the 16 A/D's on it vs the 888|24? How are the Pres? How are the D/A's for monitoring? How well does the DA-7 control PT?

Thanks in advance.

I use 2 Sonorus AD24's and 2 Sonorus DA24's with the adat bridge..They sound great and they are pretty cheap...You can get the 8ch xlr 24bit AD converter for like $600 and the DA for around $500 for the price they are great. Also the new Neuendo * channel converters are cool too around $1600 for both ad/da with a tdif option 1/4 and xlr breakout.
