Default Need help about upgrading from pro tool hd 12.5 to a higher perpetual version

Hi

Are there any options I can upgrade from pro tools hd 12.5 (with perpetual license but the updates and support are expired) to hd 12.6 or higher perpetual version?

The story is: I was using pro tools hd 12.5 with thunderbolt native hardware. However, I accidentally upgraded my os from 10.10 to 10.12, which is not compatible with the 12.5 version. Avid representative suggested me to buy a new perpetual, it costs $1899 which is a bit expensive as I have already owned a perpetual, or to subscribe a 1-year updates plan, which I don’t want to pay for it annually. Anyone has any suggestions?

Avid is nowadays really pushing customers to subscribe and they also have some crossgrade deals which might benefit you.. don't know the details so ask someone wiser, but the crossgrade nonetheless means you would be surrendering your permanent license in order to get cheaper subscription price.

Thx Jane for your response.
Yes, crossgrade is one of the options but I really don’t want to pay annually.

I found on eBay that a new perpetual license which costs half the price and the seller said they are authorised avid vendor. But I doubt that and afraid of having problem for the license stuffs...

Why don't you reinstall an older copy of the operating system?

Do you have backups?

Why are you talking about buying a whole new Ultimate licenses? You have a license already, just upgrade it.

I do not follow your statement "or to subscribe a 1-year updates plan, which I don’t want to pay for it annually." You don't have to keep paying for that... you can upgrade once (US ~$800) and can stop paying and keep using the upgraded version.... but if you let it lapse you could end up again facing a similar reinstatement fee... again as pointed out Avid is really pushing people to annual subscriptions (everything a software vendor wants: recurring revenue, simple revenue recognition model).

Hi Darrly, thanks for the response.

I looked around avid website but I can't see where is the item with "the perpetual upgrade once (US$800)"? Can you share with me the link?

Thx. jeffro.

Does the $799 upgrade include the digilink license? or need to purchase separately?
