HELP!!! PT 5.1.1 = frequent random crashes

HELP!!! PT 5.1.1 = frequent random crashes

PT 5.1.1
dp G4 500mhz
512 meg ram

At random times during various sessions, PT just freezes on me. Audio playback will still start and stop using the spacebar, but nothing else works. The mouse moves, but clicking is not an option: sometimes even clicking on "force quit" doesn't work.
I've talked to Digi Tech support about this problem, and one dude said that the PT app program might be bugged and we should reinstall. Is there any truth to this? Is this an application problem or is it something simple that I can click into oblivion???
