Default MMC and SSL console

Question involves both Mix3 and HD3 systems.

1.- What are the best methods for using a 9000 J series as the transport control for Pro Tools?

2.- Do I need a USD and a sync I/O each for it's relevant system or will the sync I/O work for both systems?

3.- What (if any) other hardwrare or cables would I need to do MMC with the SSL?

Thanks

2Tools by Alan Smart can do this with a 4000 SSL but I'm not sure about the 9000.

The most direct (ie least problems), would be to lock the usd or sync to the house gen that the ssl is locked to and then take smpte from the ssl into the PT, using it as positional ref. You could omit the video ref but you might see some drift over long playback, if you do mix to picture for example. The ssl will generate smpte when no machine is online in the machine setup page, so the protools will slave along. And you can use the ssl locate points to locate instantly from protools.

I have done this about a hundred times in a dozen different studios and it works everytime.

so...

you can do it with a usd or sync easily.

unfortunatly I don't know about MMC, but I would assume you would need to take a midi cable from/to the ssl and go into any available midi interface recognized by PT. Should be simple, just a midi cable.

I do believe you can control Pro Tools via 9-pin (Machine Control) from the 9000J/K series with SSL software 4.0 and higher.
