I am currently weighing my options since my support is due by the end of this month.

My options are:

1. Pay the $99 one more time and give Avid one more year and see what happens.

2. Let my support lapse, buy Reaper for $60 and start learning that.

3. Let my support lapse, crossgrade to Studio One for $199 and start learning that.

If I let my support plan lapse I will definitely be switching DAW's. Presonus is on the ball because they put their crossgrade on sale to coincide with this price increase/announcement. The more I read about them the better Studio one looks...

I will be checking out these videos. I’m leaning toward Logic because I have a lot of experience with it.
But definitely interested in Studio One.

I've been going back and forth with Avid Customer Care on a Case I opened to get them to come up with a vehicle by which PT "Native/Vanilla" SUBSCRIPTION users can GO BACK to a Perpetual License even at the cost of $200 which matches their increased price for one year of Perpetual License support starting 7/1/2019.

So it's like talking to a wall.

They keep saying there is no way for them to do that. The ONLY way to MOVE to a Perpetual License from a Subscription, according to them, is to run out the Subscription, don't renew it and then buy a NEW Perpetual License for $599 which is 300% MORE than the INCREASED price of one year of Perpetual License Support or 600% MORE than the price BEFORE their increase.

They are "off the rails" IMO. No doubt they will be seeing a very, very large exodus of "Native/Vanilla" Subscription customers over the coming days and months driving their market share DOWN and their Revenue Stream along with it.

NUTZ!

I myself just did that. I downloaded the Demo and after using it for half a day, I went and purchased a Studio One 4.5 Cross Grade today. It was a pretty easy decision to make after reading the Production Expert article, going thru all of Russ' videos, seeing how relatively easy it will be to move, all the new features and coming to understand that it cooks Pro Tools jets in almost every conceivable way.

I know I'm not the first and suspect I won't be the last.

Now if Presonus could just cut a deal to get the UVI Falcon VST included or at a greatly reduced cost..."Hint! Hint! Are YOU a doer?" :)

They are crazy for sure, but we are even more crazy if we all go along with it.

Why is the red hot topic slipping to the bottom of the page AVID?
Rhetorical!

That would be straight evil, but this Avid we're talking about so.. Personally I'm also concerned about Avid going bankrupt. I'm tempted to buy a couple years of support now (won't ever give them $199/year for it), but at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if the company is no more in a year or two.

It wouldn't bother me if it did. Pro Tools would live on.
