Default Re: CPU Overload (error 6101) on intel macbook pro

OK...I am at work with my Transit and 2g ram-MBPro. fw800 glyph

Just for funnies, I opened up a blank 24/48 AIFF session, and brought up the New Folder dialog...Com/Sh/N - and I put 64 stereo tracks in the window (I have the MuProdToolkt 2--} and it created 64 stereo tracks in 1 second. I then opened up 25 SSL g-channels, and held option and clicked on record, and All tracks went in to record, and I recorded for 30 seconds before I got bored, and NO Windows with errors...

Just thought I would take a closer look. Maybe I will try Altiverbs, or - Yea!!! D-Verbs !!! Later

I also use LE at home on my Quad, but I will carry my FW800 Glyph drive back and forth from home to work, where I mix and Bounce on my MBPro, with 9 to 12 reverbs, and Full blown Strike, with all drum tracks recorded to 12 individual tracks and around 20 to 30 SSL plugs with up to 40 tracks (Music Production TK).

I have a Nitro A/V FW 800 card for my Glyph and I use M-Audio TRANSIT, and I do have to crank it up to 2048 to bounce, but the M-audio is very excellent with my FW800 drive, and I only use 2g of Ram.

M-Audio transit works great with FW800...

Hey - Get a Nitro card and a FW800. I actually used a FW800 EZQuest drive for a year, as I just got the glyph. Any FW800 with Oxford chips should work.

I can't imagine using FW400? Digi thinks this is better than 800??? go figure ?
Digi doesn't say that 400 is better than 800, it's just that on the macbook pros and imacs that the 2 ports share a bus and mixing 400 and 800 on those can cause errors. Tons of people use expresscards with 800 drives, it puts the drive on a different bus.

Some people that use esata expresscards have had issues, but not all.

Quick search on the M-Audio website:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=...dbbb6709080d77

The relevant section says:

Quote:
Do you have another FireWire device (e.g. FireWire hard drive) connected to the computer? If so, disconnect the device(s) and test recording and/or playback. Connecting other FireWire hard drives to the same FireWire bus (including FW800) as your M-Audio interface can result in pops and clicks. These other devices should be connected to the second FireWire port on your M-Audio interface (if available*); alternatively you can connect your M-Audio interface to a FireWire expansion card with a Texas Instruments (TI) chipset and run it on a separate FireWire bus to eliminate this conflict. If you have an external hard drive that also offers USB 2.0 connectivity, this can be used as an alternative.
Note that the point about the USB 2.0 drive is only for testing - not for continuous use, and it may still give errors, as USB drives are not supported.

OK, but why do I have the same problem with a FW400 drive?

And why do I have NO problems after the first half an hour, anyway if FW400 or 800 drive???
What configuration was the FW400 drive in? Do you possibly have Spotlight enabled (Spotlight indexing can interrupt drive reads/writes and cause errors)?

Wolfgang - I can say, unequivocally, that the problem is somewhere in your configuration. I have the same MBP (2.2ghz C2D, 4gb RAM) and run it without problems. I have a Siig 2-Port Expresscard and have my 2626 and 2 FW400 drives connected to it. I have 2 FW800 drives connected to the MBP's FW800 port. It all runs exceptionally well.

I also ran the same configuration without the expresscard and only the FW400 drive chained in between the computer and the 2626. FW800 drives are a definite no-go if they are on the same bus (the computer only has 1 bus for both FW400 and 800).

The drive is between the MBP und the 2626. On this drive is a fresh installed OS 10.5.5 with no programms except PT 7.4.2 CS2. The drive has an Oxford Chip and is running with my HD system without any problems.
Iīm recording on the internal disc.

Spotlight is off.

All my testing, Iīm doing right now, is without the FW800 drive.

Just MBP, 1 FW400, 2626 and trying to record 2 tracks without interruption within the first half an hour.

I did all the tips from the troubleshooting site. Nothing helped.

BTW: I canīt get Siig cards in Germany. What else can you suggest? Sonnet?

I would guess that this setup is causing the problem. Running the OS from the external and recording to the internal? That is exactly the opposite of the way it should be. Run your OS and PTs on the internal drive, while recording all audio to the external. I also keep samples on the same external drive, no problems. I always seemed to have better luck running the HD at the end of the chain rather than in the middle. MAC>Interface>HD.

Your guess is wrong I tried every possible setup and nothing worked!

Thatīs just cause the fresh OS, I wouldnīt do that as a regular working base.
Just to try if itīs a problem with the OS on the internal drive.
But no! Still the same problems.

I tried that too, no difference.
Since 3 days Iīm doing nothing else than to find a configuration which works.

No luck! 6101 within the first 30 minutes and after that everything is cool for the next 4 hours!

OK, i got the Belkin Expresscard and have the same problem again.

No difference if I take the 2626 on the card and a FW400 drive chained through or use the second plug on the card or use the internal FW with a 400 drive or a 800 drive.

Every time error 6101 within 30 minutes.

What can it be?????????

Hmmm.

1) Maybe the fact that you are running the os from an external and recording to the internal drive. I said that before and you blew it off, but seriously, that is not a supported setup. There may be a major firewire bottleneck with that much data going via firewire.

2) Maybe you have a plugin that isn't compatible. Move all non digi plugs out of the plugin folder. Try it. If it runs good, put them back in until you find the culprit.

I doubt you'll get more help until you try running it on the internal drive and recording to the external firewire. Why not use time machine or something to clone the internal drive to the external and then run it like it is supposed to be run?
