Default Allenstein Machine - is it quiet as listed?

I am considering building The Allenstein Machine listed on the best desktop post. Has anyone built this machine using the listed case, components and hard drives and if so could your give any feedback on how quiet the system runs and/or would I need to upgrade anything make it run quieter?
Thanks, Michael

THe antec sonata II (99 w/450 quite power supply) is quite nice with the zalman fan.

The stock case is nosier than the sonata II and noisier than I expected.

do you sonata owners feel that there is sufficient cooling?
(I believe there is one fan in there...the allenstein box has 2)

Thanks,
Keith

i built a slightly modified allenstein based on the 4400 cpu on the premium sli mobo. i have just last week taken delivery of a 002r so i'm yet to punish the machine but its idling at 38-39 deg c (cpu and mobo) and i've not had it above about 50 deg c in the sessions and games i've used so far. i have all the fans turned down to their lowest rpm.

i built it on the sonata 2 with the stock fan on the back, the zalman 120mm 7700 cpu fan, an acousticase fan on the front and the acoustic foam in the case. the psu is the stock antec unit. i'm using a graphics card with a heat sink (and tho its listed as fanless there is a small fan on it) but the heat pipes from the top to the bottom of the card were touching the sonata 2's internal ducting - the pipe that channels from just above the cpu fan to the rear of the case, so i have removed the duct.

its not silent but even at moderate mixing volumes i cannot hear it. i'm at work at the mo and dont have the full spec, i can post it later today if need be.

i'm extremely pleased with the system.

tim

It uses a power supply fan that is only on when neeed. The case fans and hard drives are all mounted with grommets, so they are not creating vibration.
It uses a large - controllable rear fan which can spin slower/quieter.

It is quite well designed. I would buy it again even for the way the hard drives mount. Individual isolated trays...makes swapping and plugging in that much easier.

I have never had heat problems...

I agree with Justin. I have that case and it is fantastic. Super quiet and seems to stay very cool.
