OS9-compatible brand new Macs still available
FYI - thankfully, Apple respects those that still want to boot OS9 - enough to have a page on their web site showing Macs you can still boot. A dual-1.25GHz is the fastest. Here's the enormous link:

Re: OS9-compatible brand new Macs still available
Unfortunately, the way Apple has their site set up, links like that are unique to a particular browsing session, and expire after some time.
For anyone looking at this thread, here is where you go: http://store.apple.com then Power Mac G4 then in the upper right hand corner click "Mac OS 9 systems." |

Re: OS9-compatible brand new Macs still available
At this late point in the game, unless money is simply no object,I think it would be a bad move to buy one of the older machines, unless you absolutely had to. If you at all can, it's better to nurse what you have along until you can move to OSX on the new machine.
In the near future, the new 1394b Firewire that's only available on the OSX only machines will be very important for audio. Lee Blaske |

Re: OS9-compatible brand new Macs still available
I bought one a week ago. It's arriving today. I am one of the people who needs to work in OS9. I also know 2 others that purchased the same machine.

Even with FW800 in every audio Mac out there, what we really need are faster hard drives. Western Digital is taking a step in that direction w/ the first ATA 10k rpm drive, although only in a 36 GB version to start. But! Imagine if in a year or so there are 10k rpm Serial ATA drives as large as the normal IDE drives, which currently top out at 200 or 250 !! Slap one of those in an updtaed FW800 enclosure and you're good to go! |
