Recording Movie Samples in PT8 LE
Could comeone please explain to me how I can record the audio portion of a movie to use as a sample in a track I'm working on?
Getting the sample onto the track is the easy part and I know how to do that... but how do I actually record the sample from the movie? Can I use PT? |

Re: Recording Movie Samples in PT8 LE
What OS are you on, peecee or Mac?
If Mac, there is a program called Audio Hijack by Rouge Amoeba that allows you to record any audio that is passing through OSX (Not Digi audio , however) So you can use something like that.. Another option is take your computer's standard audio outputs and connect that to the inputs on your ProTools interface, then record like any other line level source. The only thing here would be if your movie/DVD player software will play nicely while PT is recording...

Re: Recording Movie Samples in PT8 LE
All right, I'm not aware of an equivalent to Audio Hijack for peecee, but I bet there is something out there..
Try googling "rip DVD audio" and recording the output of the computer should be very easy, as well...

Re: Recording Movie Samples in PT8 LE
Most programs when you import the video via firewire or usb into a movie maker like final cut allow you to seperate the audio from the video. I believe this is what you're trying to do. All you have to do is find a way in something like windows movie maker to export the audio sample as a .wav file and you're golden I believe there is an option that allows you to do this. This will allow you to load the sample into pro tools. I'm not sure why you would want to do this though because then you'd have to sync the files back up and thats well beyond annoying. Also you can create a plain audio track and record from the audio output on your camera but you will lose some quality (not that much cameras have high audio quality anyways). I also believe you could import the video into protools and it will seperate audio and video though I have never tried doing this and I don't know if it will work for you but it's worth a try? All in all I just use a friends final cut when working with video and just print any pro tools files I want to appear in the video. If this isn't the help you were looking for let me know and I'll try again ;0.
