Default PT6.0 MBox rhythmic snaps & 10.2.4

i went ahead and upgraded to 10.2.4 and, coincidently, i am getting rhythmic snaps (1 per second) on playback. so far it has affected playback only (and it will corrupt a bounce to disc, so it isn't a USB problem). oddly, it goes away when i do an edit (like split region). then it will comeback at some random point later.

has anybody seen or heard of this? or know of a workaround? thanks.
