both of those pre's are not a "work of art" but in that price range nothing is really outstanding , try saving alittle more and getting somthing more serius , spending more money for midrange preamps that wont upgrade you or wont do a reasonable change to your sound isnt a wise move IMHO

hard to compare, because 002 lightpipe doesn't allow smux. i'm not sure but digimax (the real thing, not LE) should have multiple spdif outs too, so the comparison should be possible, if someone has this unit available. i only have the LE.

002 preamps are told to be "based on" digidesign's "pre" design which is quite good; and 002 converters are on par with MIX hardware. so if the 002 gain range is good enough (which it isn't for drum recording for example), the sound is good, and shouldn't differ much from the digimax, which has better gain range and other options. i'm however only guessing here because i only have digimax LT and it colors the sound a bit - but i'm told the real thing doesn't.

imho 002 preamps are good for vocals and guitars. bad for bass and even worse for drums. and who was the idiot designer who placed the phantom switches to the back of the rack unit???
