Default McDsp settings between machines?

Hi,
I brought my hard drive to another studio to work on some mixes.
I am on PT 7.3. G4 DP 1.25 HD4 accel. (Yeah...I know...but it works great.)
They are on 8.01. G5 DP 2.0. HD3 accel.
All was fine as we have the same plugin set.
When I got the drive back home, I found that all of the McDsp G Channel instances reverted to the factory default upon re-opening the 3 sessions.
This was unfortunate as we had just spent 12 hours doing fine EQ adjustments.

Is there any way to get the settings back?
All of the other plugs seem to be just fine.
Any way to avoid this in the future?

Thanks for your time.

B

Did you make a backup at the other studio? If so, that seems like the only way that you're gonna see those settings again.

Also, there's an outside chance that they may open up with the correct settings if you reopen the sessions, from your drive, on the other studios system. It's worth a shot at least.

Yeah,
Thanks. We kept a version over there as well just in case.
Unfortunately, It's a 3.5 hour drive to another state.
So much for portability.
I was just noticing that the same thing is happening on a couple of other projects that were sent from other places.
Just McDSP EQ settings.
I guess the quick answer is to stop using McDSP eq's.....But, I really like them.

Thanks for reading.

You could call and ask the engineer there to open and save those presets for you and then zip and email them to you. The settings themselves should be small.

I wish McDSP sorted that out.

But you ARE running a 7 year old rig

Tried that.
It doesn't seem to transfer between 8 and 7.3.
Weird.

You could call and ask the engineer there to:

Open and activate automation on all parameters.
Select only "plug-ins" in the automation window (you don't want to overwrite volumes/pan).
Select the track(s) and hit "Write To All Enabled" (command-option-/)
Save the session (as PT 7.x).
Email the session.

Or Have him take screenshots of the settings and email those to you.

Or rent a ProTools 8 rig to finish your mix.

Thanks.

We did all of your first ideas early on.
Upon opening the sessions on the older machine, all McDSP EQ settings gone.
We actually then went caveman and they sent me the crucial instances as screenshots.
Fortunately, after a few hours, I was able to redo what we had done mostly from memory and all was fine.
I guess my fear is having it happen again.

I guess this may simply be a heads up to anyone going through the same process.
Print your Mcdsp eq's!

Also unfortunately, the pickins' are slim for modern pt8 studios in my area.
I guess that will end up having to be us sooner or later.

Thanks for reading.

Maybe the issue is being caused by different versions of the McDSP plugs? If you are on an older version, try updating or upgrading to the same version the other studio is using and try reloading the sessions to see if the settings reappear.

Just also wanted to remind you that the studio only needs to email the small session file if you have all of the audio files in your folder. The only exception to this would be if he went through and printed all of the plug-in settings.

assuming your using straight settings and no automation what happens if the other engineer save the setting as a preset and e-mail you a copy of those settings files

this dose sound like you have an older version that the other place
