A super simple system that could have an attachable (on the iPod connector) mic-pres with 1 mic input on XLR with phantom power that could perhaps double as line inputs with a Neutrik connector and using the iPhone headphones for monitoring. It would have a USB port for connecting a USB MIDI controller (like Korg nano controller) and be able to run a couple of VIs. All running an elegant tiny version of Pro Tools. It could be called Digidesign M-Phone. Good for simple live recording and composing, completely portable and hotel and bus friendly for composing and registering ideas on the go.

Edit: Oh! God! I am thinking now that the OP may be asking about the EXISTING iPhone app for Pro Tools - the remote control surface app - that I just found out that exist(!), in which case my reply will sound completely crazy. I am sorry if this is the case. I thought the OP asked for new ideas.

Seems too expensive. Although it looks well thought out.
For $150 it should come with a mic stand cradle.
They also offer a $100 cut down.

Not likely, it is probably just emulating the midi input of a digi-supported control surface. Worst case scenario you'd have sticky or slow faders.

I agree with you. But I would love to hear a review from someone - maybe form the DUC - before I buy it, just to avoid trouble. But I can see a lot of uses of this app! Great idea!

I use this:
mochasoft.dk/iphone_vnc.htm
Works like a charm and the light version is even free.
Ideal for using the transport window in PT.
