Default Playback Engine

Thank you kind soul for your eyes and insight. My question is whether I can use a Behringer Xenyx Q802USB as a Playback Engine, and if so, how to select it. It's currently not available in a list of options provided to me in a window called "Playback Engines" that Pro Tools prompts me with when I try to run Pro Tools.

When I try to run Pro Tools currently, I get this message: "The selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device." Below the message are two buttons (1) "Quit" and (2) "OK."

"Quit" closes Pro Tools. "OK" takes me to a window titled "Playback Engine" and offers me two options in a drop down list. One "playback engine" is a device by ASIO that I don't own, and another is a Presonus Firestudio Mobile (PFSM) hardware device that I used to use as the playback engine when I worked off of a macbook pro using this same copy of Pro Tools 10. I can't use the PFSM with my current rig, because it doesn't have a firewire input.

Again, my question is whether I can use the Behringer mixer as my playback engine, and if so, how to select it. Thank you kind soul for your wisdom!

Default Re: Playback Engine

you would need an ASIO driver, I couldn't find one on the Behringer page for that unit, so you could try ASIO4ALL

Default Re: Playback Engine

I think it worked, Benoni. I downloaded the ASIO4all driver from here: http://www.asio4all.com/, and installed it. Of course, now I'm getting a new error message about something different, after I select ASIO4all as my playback engine. The message says:

"Could not allocate memory for disk cache. Try lowering your disk buffer (DAE Buffer), disk cache size, or engine voice count. If you got this error on launch, delete your prefs and try again. (-9514)"

So I'll be researching that. Anyone who knows how to handle the above message, the enlightenment of your wisdom would be terrific. Meanwhile, I'll continue, as I have for the last decade, spending more than 90% of my time "making music," instead just troubleshooting software and hardware issues. Sorry for the vitriol y'all.
