Default Trying to get 96 kHz but can't

New user here. Downloaded and installed PT First 12.3.1. The app manager says it is current. I am trying to configure my MOTU Track 16 to work.

I checked the Avid website specs which state that 96 kHz is supported. However, when I configure my MOTU as such, I just get the following error. When I click create project, PT says it could not initialize the device, and the only option is to quit PT. The same thing happens when I configure the MOTU as 88.2. It is only when I drop down to 48 kHz that I can actually create a project. But when I check the settings, PT has reconfigured the MOTU to 44.1 kHz.

Can anyone tell me if this is a limitation of PT First? Or, perhaps a compatibility issue with the MOTU Track 16? My MOTU works fine with other DAWs. I have the latest drivers installed for the MOTU which uses its own ASIO drivers.

System specs:
Win10 Pro x64
3770K
16 GB RAM
some drives
No system audio devices enabled

TIA

What exact MOTU driver version did you install? And what exactly do you have selected as the playback engine in Pro Tools (Setup>Playback Engine).

It sounds like you have already made sure that Windiws is not trying to use the MOTU. Make sure no other audio app or utility is either.

Is the MOTU your interface for Windows? It sounds like Windows is locking the sample rate perhaps. Or you need to use the MOTU driver app (if there is one) to change the sample rate before starting Pro Tools.

Hi guys, thanks for the quick responses.

I am using MOTU Universal Audio Installer 4.0.6.6814.

Playback Engine: MOTU Audio ASIO
Default Option: Main Out 1-2
Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz
Optimize Engine for: Adjust from hardware manufacturer control panel

All audio devices are disabled in Windows for both playback and recording, so no audio period in Windows.

I always change the sample rate using the MOTU Audio Console before launching PT. But when I set it to 96 kHz, PT complains and quits.

Perhaps there is something else I need to configure? Thanks for helping a newb!
