Again, I don't see why people would get upset about this. Anybody that was already on PT11 has not lost anything by waiting. The price is the same as it was. If you had paid $199 in November, you would get PT12 for free. If you pay $199 now, you get PT12 for free. How is this anything bad?

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that they came out with a new version this quickly. Everyone who bought the support plan without knowing what was coming gets a nice surprise. And those who have waited now have the same opportunity to get the same nice surprise for the same price.

It's out!?!!

It's a leaked ad for an announcement. One thing we do know is that it HAS to ship in the same quarter that it was announced due to Sarbanes-Oxley.

Would I be correct that this applies to an Avid announcement, not a leaked add by GC?

Where does Sarbanes-Oxley specify how much lead time is allowed when announcing new software products and when it is available?

S-O has been around for a good 12 1/2 or so years now. Why does it all of a sudden apply to Avid and their software?

Right, in the same quarter as the announcement which appears to be coming @ NAMM based on the leaked ad.

public companies have to ship an announced product in the same quarter of the announcement. It was to keep vaporware from impacting company's stock prices etc.

Can you cite where in Sarbanes-Oxley that is stated.

There are lots of public companies that announce products that do not ship until well after that same quarter.

Microsoft has announced Windows 10 some time ago. Car companies regularly announce new models of cars a year before they are available. Disney has announced the new Star Wars movie which won't be out until December.

I'm just wondering why all of a sudden this applies to Avid now, when it hasn't for the past 12 years. (Other than they are "changing their accounting practices").

The words "software" and "vaporware" are not mentioned at all in the text of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. And the word "release" (actually released) is only mentioned twice in the context of rules governing the implementation of the provisions of the SOX by the SEC.

Let's not get all in a huff about a print ad. I'm going to wait and see what actual info comes out of NAMM before anything else.
