Default MacBook Pro 13"

Hi,

I'm trying to decide which laptop to buy. I'm using 002R.

Because by budget is limited the only mac I could buy is MacBook Pro 13".
Is the Intel 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo enough wiht 4 GB memory?

And more over: is the Serial ATA system Drive @ 5400 rpm enough???
As far as I know one cannot change this to the 7200 drive??

Is the firewire 800 ok with the 002R?

I would like to become a mac-dude but I'm a bit worried.
Also, I would run my MacBook with both OS and Windows 7.

Is it enough? Yes. It's what I have. I love it and it's awesome. I was like you. I wanted to enter the world of Mac for audio recording after 10+ years on PC. I'm still thrilled I made the move. The base model 13" is a sweet and capable computer. The 4GB RAM is really good too.

The 5400rpm drive inside is fine for your system drive. Regardless of the speed of the internal drive you should pick up an external FireWire800 drive for your sessions. If you want to upgrade it, it's really really easy. Go to MACSALES.com for upgrade kits.

The FireWire should be fine with your interface. It works great with my ProFire 610.

Note that you have no benefit of FW800 Drive when you use 002R because 002R is only FW400 and will slow down the FW bus to 400. So your FW800 HDD runs only in FW400 mode.

If he chains the 002 second in the chain, hard drive first, won't he keep his FW800 speed for the drive? This is what I do with my ProFire610.

In any case, the beauty of PT9 is you don't even need the interface when mixing anyway. Most times for menits just my MBP, my iLok, and my drive.

Consider light peak is possible on the new macbooks in April and Avid is already testing audio interfaces with that. Don't know what price range both ends of the line will be, though. Maybe more or less irrlevant for smaller sized mobil recording applications.

Thanks for the valuable info. I'm going to give that MACSALE.com a serious look because I'm almost certain that I will upgrade the system drive. Looking to upgrade to something like 500-1000 GB 7200.

BUT now to the most important thing: today I bought The MacBook Pro 13" Intel 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo 4 GB.

I'm going to install windows 7 also.
I also bought WD My Book Studio External Hard Drive, 1TB, firewire 800 and USB2.

Feels good to be a mac-dude finally.

Make sure you go to MACSALES.com and not MACSALE.com. There's an S.

I did the exact hard drive upgrade youre talking about a month or two ago. I bought the Seagate Momentus 500gb 7200rpm drive kit from MACSALES.com. I used a free program called SuperDuper to clone my system drive first, then made the swap. It was easy and seamless. Boots just like it did with your original drive. If you want help with that PM me.
