Default Fast Track C400 driver crashes system

Hello,

I am asking for help as the M-Audio Fast Track C400 driver (version 1.1.7, firmware 1.0.1) frequently crashes my system (BSOD on Windows 7 64).

It happens with the ASIO-driver in Studio 1 (and other DAWs) and it happens with the normal Fast Track driver in Windows 7 (standard audio output).

If the system crashes with ASIO the related BSOD-message prompts "Attempted Switch from DPC", if the system crashes with Windows-driver the message is "Driver IRQL not less or equal".

Please find attached jpg for detailed error-messages.

The driver of Realtek (internal mainbord-soundcard) and ASUS internal soundcard are not producing these BSODs; it only happens when I switch to the Fast Track driver.

As I am no expert in IT I hope maybe you have some help available.

My system: W7 64, Intel I7 3770, 8 GB Ram.
Installed Audio-Devices: Realtek High Definition Audio, ASUS Xonar Essense STX, M-Audio Fast Track C400, NVIDA High Definition Audio and Virtual Audio, Webcam Pro 900

Thanks a lot,

Best regards,

Kinf

What motherboard are you using in your computer? It is best if you can post a full Sandra report.

Do you have the FT connected to USB 3 or 2 ports?

Thank you for your quick answer.

Just one question. Is the lite version of Sandra sufficient to what you need (I really don't want to buy the full version for 50 $)

BTW the Mainboard I use is an Asrock Z77 Extreme 6 and the FT is connected via USB 2.0.

Best regards,

Kinf

Just the freebie version should work fine.

Try downloading and installing the latest Intel chipset drivers: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...pdate-Utility-

A recommendation, set your onboard sound card as your Windows audio device and save the FT for your DAW use only.

Thanks again for the quick answer.

I already installed the updated chipset-drivers, you kindly posted with the link above.

I also installed Sandra and run a full hardware report. Please find it here:

As you stated above it is a good idea to leave the FT-driver for the DAW, as this also prevents the BSODs when not in the DAW. However, I really would like to eliminate them at all (also in the DAW).

Thank you very much,

Best regards,

Kinf

Nothing looks particularly troublesome in your Sandra report. Can you try a memory test:http://www.memtest.org/ (likely not the problem, but a good thing to try).

Also, be sure you've gone through the Optimization Guide, specifically the part about disabling any power management.

Default Re: Fast Track C400 driver crashes system

Hi guys,

I've just registered here because of similar problems with the Fast Track C400 (same driver, same firmware as above) and Windows 7 64bit. Only I don't use ProTool or any other Pro-DAW tools, but just ponder along with Skype, Camtasia and Audacity via the Windows audio recording device thingy (?).

Most of the time the audio streaming driver seems to be the culprit. I suspect in the other instances it causes the kernel to act up.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED MAudioFastTrackC400.sys
DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL ntoskrnl.exe
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL MAudioFastTrackC400.sys
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL MAudioFastTrackC400.sys
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT ntoskrnl.exe

It seems to happen in particular in combination with Skype and screen sharing.

Any ideas? I've changed USB ports, played with USB power management (though I don't think that should make a difference in this case, as I'm not using PT), reinstalled the driver several times. All to no avail.

Memtest didn't bring up any issues and most of the system components (i5 4690K, Asus z97-pro, 8GB Kington Fury) are pretty new and Windows is also freshly installed.

Are there any alternative drivers I could use? Help! :)

edit: anyone tried rolling to an older driver version?

Well, I rolled back to drivers before the Windows 8 drivers were released and that has gotten rid of the issues. I also increased the buffer size to 1024, but I'm now too lazy/chicken to test whether the 256 buffer has caused the bluescreens.

Btw. the driver still doesn't like the system going to sleep and the C400 just won't be responsive after wake-up. [rant] Great drivers ... I mean, who could possibly want power management and putting things to sleep. [/rant]
