What happens if I DON'T upgrade to PT11 before December 31st?
Hey guys!
Trying to sift through over 2000 posts in the Licensing thread to find out information, but it's very hard to make sense of so many pages. Basically, what I want to know, is if I'm going to be screwed by not upgrading before December 31st. I have PT10 currently and I will want to upgrade to PT11 soon. I simply don't have the money this week to be able to do the upgrade. Does anyone know what happens after the 31st, when I want to upgrade to PT11? |

Re: What happens if I DON'T upgrade to PT11 before December 31st?
This paragraph from the FAQ concerns me:
"Q: If my Pro Tools | Software upgrade/support plan expires and I want to upgrade Pro Tools later on, what are my options? A: In 2015 you will have two options to get on an upgrade/support plan: 1) Take advantage of flexible licensing options (details on additional licensing options will be available in the coming months) 2) Purchase a new perpetual software license (full product) that includes a 12-month upgrade/support plan" Where it says "Full Product", does that mean paying hundreds of dollars to upgrade to PT11, as if I'd never previously owned Pro Tools? |

Re: What happens if I DON'T upgrade to PT11 before December 31st?
The current offer terms and pricing expires at the end of this month (December 2014), but you will still be able to upgrade after that. Pricing has not been announced, but upgrades in 2015 will be less than the cost of full purchase.
I would like to give you a more definitive answer, but I simply don't have that information yet. I do know that if you purchase an upgrade to Pro Tools 11 in 2015, it would include free upgrades to any feature releases for 11 and the next version for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase of an upgrade/support plan. |

I, and many others, have had an understanding that the $199 price would remain through 2015, and that purchasing prior to 12/31/2014 simply entitled one to an extra three months of support. May I request that you clarify this as soon as possible, as a lot of users had been planning for the $199 service contract prices being available through 2015...which was based on information previously provided by Avid. At this late date (and especially right after Christmas), if Avid does plan to raise the price from $199 on 01/01/2015, may I suggest that Avid extend the $199 price at least through 03/31/2015?

Now they are aiming to scare people into sooner entry by not providing unambiguous info. As Dr Phil would have said: - how is that working for ya? - customers are not prominent to be beat up like they used to... |

The original poster asked about upgrading from Pro Tools 10. You have stated a few times in your previous posts that you do not own Pro Tools, so I'm curious as to what specific upgrade you are asking about.

Re: What happens if I DON'T upgrade to PT11 before December 31st?
Here is what I wrote on the first page of this thread:
Quote:
The current offer is less than the previous pricing for upgrades from some older versions of Pro Tools, and a lot less from Pro Tools Express. I don't have 2015 pricing, but the upgrade offer that is ending includes the upgrade to Pro Tools 11 and upgrades to all feature releases through the end of the support plan period (normally 12 months, but through March 2016 for this offer). I understand that where the price is the same if you are looking at an upgrade from Pro Tools HD 10, or the crossgrade from Pro Tools 10 or 11 with the Complete Production Toolkit, that there is no dollar savings compared to the previous pricing. What it does offer is the ExpertPlus support plan that you may or may not use, and it includes any feature releases through March 2016. I also understand that buying into that without actually seeing or trying the next feature release of Pro Tools is not necessarily a compelling reason to upgrade at this time. For users that already have Pro Tools 11 or Pro Tools HD 11, the Upgrade FAQ says this: "you are already on the most current version (11) of Pro Tools so there is no need to purchase an additional upgrade now." These are the current sale prices, and what the discounts are from previous pricing: Upgrades/Crossgrades to Pro Tools | Software New upgrade/crossgrade to Pro Tools | Software with Standard support plan (from any software version below) $199
New upgrade to Pro Tools | HD Software with ExpertPlus support plan (from any software below) $599

The FAQ even states "Renew your plan annually for just $199 (Pro Tools) or $599 (Pro Tools | HD) to stay current". Obviously that is a lie or a very poorly overlooked inaccuracy if it's not true. If it is true then the price remains for at least one year, which seems to be what Cariddi said more or less. Again: What phrasing in "the offer" is it that makes you think the price could or would change on January 1st 2015? |

Since I may have been one who misinterpreted you, please allow me to ask you about a very specific situation... I currently own PT 9 Through 12/31/2014 I can get: 12 month service plan + 3 additional months PT 11 License Price: $199.00 Beginning 01/01/2015, and through 12/31/2015 I can get: 12 month service plan PT 11 License Price: Will the price remain $199.00, at least initially? Or have you not yet been provided with this information? This is what I, and many others, are concerned about. While Tony Cariddi did not specifically state that the $199.00 upgrade price would remain in effect through all or part of 2015 (which is why I haven't previously commented on this specific issue), the impression was certainly given that it would be $199.00 for all of 2015. The "$199.00 for all of 2015" was mentioned several times by various posters on the "New Licensing" thread, and I believe it was mentioned by one or more moderators on that thread. At no time was this "impression" corrected by anyone from Avid...technically they did not have to as it was not something Avid had specifically said. But it would have been a nice thing for Avid to do from a customer relationship viewpoint. As I have previously mentioned in this forum, I was planning to move to another DAW after the first of the year, not because I was mad at Avid or the changes they were making, but simply because I felt another product would better meet my current needs. I would liked to have been able to move to PT 11 just to stay current and preserve my previous investments, but the $399 upgrade was just more than I could afford. When the $199.00 for 15 months + an upgrade to PT 11 "deal" came along, I literally counted pennies from my piggy bank, but there was just no way I could do it right at Christmas time. When the "$199.00 for all of 2015" impression developed and was not contradicted by Avid, I was ecstatic, as I probably would be able to raise $199 at some point in 2015. (I lost my job in February, which has left me in a precarious financial condition, otherwise I would not be so "price sensitive") From what I have read on here, I'm not the only one who has made "$199.00 for all of 2015" a part of their planning. If it is not to be, some would go ahead and buy before the end of the year, but only if Avid let's them know tomorrow. But if they are left hanging, they will probably be gone. Sorry to be so long-winded, and like most here I appreciate the many efforts you have made on our behalf...if you can get an answer for my question (which will also answer many other's questions), it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
