Best OSX version for 12.7 on Mac Pro 5,1?

I'm going to be moving from my MBP to a 2010 Mac Pro 5,1.
8 core. 2.4GHz.

1.) what's the best OSX for running PT 12.7.?Is Sierra fine? I'm all for doing what's best for PT on this machine.

2.) it has 2GBx4 installed in it. I was thinking of adding another 2GBx4 into it from OWC. Should there be any issue with that?

You really should have all ram modules the same size/specs/manufacturer. You already have 8 gig and are thinking of adding another 8 gig right? I'd actually go for more total ram, ripping out what's already in there. 32 gig or even 64 gig and there are different ways of doing that from OWC. You're saying you want what's best for PT so why short yourself on ram?

Don't forget to budget for drives to record to and host your samples. Internal drives shouldn't be that expensive.

Is it OK to add 4GBx4
to the 2GBx4 that I already have in the machine for a total of 24GB, or should all the sticks be the same size?

"10.10.5" (Last Mac OS in previous coding)
or
"10.12.2" (Check Compatibility of all Plug-in's, Drivers and such)

Also note what video card you'll be using.
SSD's , 7200rpm Hybrid drives (Not fusion drives) (Seagate SSHD, Firecuda's have been good to me)

You really want to have all sticks the same size. Not just that but from the same manufacturer and specs. Mixing ram sizes and specs can lead to disaster.

Thanks for the confirmation. I'll just get going with the 8GB it's got. I might actually be fine. Soon though I'll stick in 4GBx4 from OWC. That'll leave me with room for another OWC set if I feel like adding later.

I'm about to upgrade from 10.10.5 to Sierra on my 5.1 too.
In my old age, I've gotten lazier and lazier so I was wondering,
is everybody still doing clean installs every major os upgrades?

That's the ONLY way to do an operating system upgrade. Also do NOT use Migration Assassin to bring your old stuff over - do a complete clean install. There's too many thing to go wrong with an in-situ OSX upgrade or using MA. Do either of those no-nos and you'll be right back here complaining about having problems.

I've been doing clean installs since Snow Leopard and I always install everything manually.
Just wanted to see if the tide had changed since my last upgrade.
