Working with Video...
...hey guys.
So I've got video that I need to put audio to. Can someone recommend me a format which proves to be most efficient? MP4? MP2? Which one runs most smoothly?

Re: Working with Video...
DV is the most CPU efficient, the files sizes are large but it creates the least CPU overhead for Pro tools use, this will also allow for DV output if you so require.
Cheers

Re: Working with Video...
Ah ok...so even though, for example, MPEG 4 is smaller it might not run as well?

Re: Working with Video...
It doesn't quite sound right but theoretically yes, you could always try the mp4 and see how you go. If you have QT pro you could export as DV if so required, also there an app called mpeg streamclip which is free and great for QT exports, you might wan tot try that also.
Are your sessions intensive because the more that go's on the video the less have for your score? You might want to adjust QT playback priority in the prefs if things go quirky! Cheers

Re: Working with Video...
It's basically 5 mins of a film - I'm redoing all the sound for it, so everything accept for the music.
I tried the DV option, but MP4 has proved a little better...so far anyway. Yeah, got quicktime pro and also streamclip. The latter, I agree, is a great tool! What I may do, is create different sessions for each element: foley, dialogue, ambiences, music etc. Bloody ProTools and the limited tracks!! (can't afford the toolkit option) Although, kind of a blessing in disguise really; keeps the track count down a little, then I can just stem mix it all
