So, I am at my wits end with this and need some help. Every time I try to work in pro tools the thing totally hangs up and freezes out the computer. I.E. nothing works no mouse movement no response from the keybord etc. This happens consistantly. I have Made sure my Plugins are up to date. I have done all of the recommended optimizations short of updating the bios and Chipset (out of my element).

Also, I am using a Lynx Aurora 16 with the Lynx Aes16e interface if that makes any difference.

Those sorts of errors may be caused by hard disk failure. Have you had any "bluescreens" recently?

When was the last time this worked properly?

Do you have a drive image of the last working system?

Is your ilok software up to date?

If there has ever been software with questionable installation schemes installed, there may be issues with the registry.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've since taken the computer to my repair guy to have things looked at. My system drive checks out OK. I have not had any blue screens. I'm having my guy update the bios and chipset drivers and also upgrading to an 8 core 4.0 cpu. I'm also having him wipe the drive and do a fresh OS install. After which I will reinstall pro tools, my slate plugins, and my Ik multimedia arc system 2 plug. The arc plug was the suspected culprit to my issue and after their tech support's suggestion of wiping it from the registry is whe my problems got worse (not to say it wasn't bad to begin with.). Wish me luck. I have a paying client on hold because of this.

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem with Pro Tools 10, under Windows 10 and Lynx Aes16e with Aurora 10. Have you solved the problem?

Please keep in mind that Pro Tools 10 is not supported beyond Windows 7 SP1.

The OP is running an AMD processor, is that the same for you?

I have known of people running this in Windows 10, but I'm not sure of the limitations. Perhaps others will chime in.

I would consider upgrading Pro Tools.

Thank you Tom. I have an Intel i7 processor. In my laptop (with Win 10 and Pro Tools 10, with a Focusrite Scarlett via USB) everything is Ok. I don't think that the problem come due to Windows 10.

The whole computer freezing, early candidate to exclude is device drivers and maybe interface hardware. I would I test with whatever other interface you have, including if you needed to install ASIO4ALL just to test. Unplug everything you do not need connected.

I would not waste much time trying to debug before just rolling back to the last working backup, or do a full clean Windows install. (Oops which I see you are already going to do - good call. Get him to install Windows 10 *Pro* so you can fully disable auto updates).
