Default Magma PE6R4 discontinued?

Curious if anyone has any information on this. I'm now seeing the Magma PE6R4 Chassis (PCI, with PCIe host card) listed as discontinued on some major retailer websites (B&H Photo, for example). Is this product on the way out?

If so, is there a newer, preferred Magma chassis with a PCIe host card for newer Macs for use with older PCI PT cards?

There has been some mention on this forum about people ordering the PE6R4 recently and receiving a model PE6R4i I believe that has a silent power supply upgrade.

Hi,

Its still in their store! and they recently introduced the "I" version with a single I-Pass cable.

Yes they are made to order; they actually always have been for the most part. I got my PE6R4I in about 4 days after ordering. It simply just worked perfectly out of the box and it is dead silent. Having had the Expansion HD chassis before; I couldn't believe how much that thing was slowing down my overall Pro Tools experience; the PE6R4I is incredibly fast and robust.

FWIW, if you already have an existing PE6R4, Magma will sell you the new, quieter power supply (around $200). Pretty quick and easy to install, it makes a huge difference in noise output.

I'm not aware of it being discontinued..... I switched from Windows to an 8-core Mac and put my PTHD3 Accel PCIX cards in the chassis with zero issues. In fact, this system is ROCK SOLID. The only issue I have is, that chassis fan is LOUD!!!! It's such a simple box, why??? Oh well, it works and that's all that matters.

Brad,
I have the new PE6R4I (two of them) and they are VERY QUIET!
Excellent chassis. Much better that the previous HD Expansion chassis.
These work like a dream. BIG Improvement!
