Default OSX 10.9 Mavericks Compatibility

Hey, so I just got Pro Tools, but I had to install 10 instead of 11, since I'm still running Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro and I don't have 8 gigs of RAM yet. I was thinking of upgrading my OS soon anyway, and since Mavericks was just announced and should be coming pretty soon, I figured I should just wait for that. I don't want to cause any compatibility problems with Pro Tools, though, so can anyone tell me how quickly Avid tends to patch in support for new Mac OS's? Thanks!

You should be using Mountain Lion for now, OS X 10.8.4 to be precise.

It could take a while before OS X 10.9 will be approved. It usually takes Avid days or months from release of a new OS to approve/qualify it. It depends on the changes that come with the OS.

Maverick will be cool because of the multi monitor support, but yeah stability rules:)

Well, of course I would wait for it to be stable; I just figured that if Avid supports it fairly soon, like a month after release or something it might be better to just wait, since I can work just fine on Pro Tools 10, and I don't want to spend more money on OS's than I have to. It just seems silly to me to drop the cash on Mountain Lion when Mavericks is so close to release.

It can very well take more than a month after a major OS release. You never know about these, the OS might have changed a lot or not.

I'd buy Mountain Lion now and grab few months worth of stable system. It only costs peanuts now so isn't it a no-brainer? I would've understand this back in the day when OS upgrade cost 129 dollars but now it's just silly to not buy every release.

I'm using multi-monitors now at 10.8.4. What will be the improvement with 10.9?

Went to the Apple site - can't find what you're talking about with Finder on all monitors. Heck we've had multiple monitors since at least 10.4 - either mirrored or extended desktop. Finder on all monitors - is that supposed to mean having the Dock on all monitors? If so - what a waste of space.

Biggest things I can find are all things that would screw up PT. Timer coalescing - allowing your cpu to go into a low power state more often. App Nap - slowing down an app that's completely hidden behind all other windows. Not something you want or need a PT or any recording rig to do. These might be good for laptop users doing regular work but in recording - not so much.

All in all a big yawn - they're turning OSX into another iOS variant. Then again what I'm reading about the new Haswell processors - aren't they the new generation of low power cpu's? Then they'd need Mavericks.
