Default Patriot Supersonic Magnum 256GB

I am wondering if I can use a Patriot Supersonic Magnum USB drive with PT11.

See http://goo.gl/2mxxF7

According to the specs it should be fast enough I think. But it is a thumb drive. I am not planning to record on the drive. Just to work with my sessions on the drive.

If you have Pro Tools HD, the Disk Cache feature should help eliminate any issues you would otherwise encounter with this disk.

ah but I don't have PT11HD. I have just PT11.

This would be a problem? It seems such a sleek solution to work with PT while I'm on the go.

It could be. Disk Cache loads the timeline into RAM so you are actually playing back from memory and not the disk. Without that, you are more susceptible to performance issues associated with any disk, not just this one.

Thanks for your thoughts Jonathan!

I want to be sure before I buy it, but I think you mean to say I'd better stick with an USB Hard Drive or SSD. right?

Or maybe I should wait for the Thunderbolt thumb drive that Intel seems to be testing. But then again, thunderbolt is nice but it is the drive that counts.

I'd love to give these new drives a try. There small and light and when you want to take your equipment with you on a flight the lighter the better.
