Unfortunately, there is no MADI card for the CL5. And if there was, it would only give me 48 channels since the CL5 only has three card slots and each slot is limited to 16 channels in and out.

Edit: I guess there is a MADI card, but still limited to 48 channels.

I can already record 64 channels with the Dante Virtual Sound card. It's easy to do. Just not while staying inside Protools. It should be even easier by adding a dedicated Dante Ethernet card.
So prove to Avid you don't need to put up with their HD hardware lock in and use an different DAW for as much as you can... I would.

I suspect Avid cares little about your individual situation, and sees Yamaha as a serious competitor in the relatively high-margin high-end live market (and if you wanted better Pro Tools connectivity you would just purchase an Avid console - right?), and even if they cared they (like me) more see pure AVB as the future.

A very small PITA, if you already have the files somewhere. You don't need to copy the files over, you can just simply add them to the session (provided your session has same parameters so you don't need to convert). And I'm guessing they would all be starting from same time so you can just drop them to start of session in the same import process.

As Darryl said:

But if you want to record them straight into PT session, you need Avid interface(s) for +32 tracks.

Well then, just grab new Avid boxes if you need to.

I think the dante-madi converters adds approx 50 sample latency 😮

If you are already at 3ms with plug-ins in your session, that extra 1ms is what can make the drummer start complaining about latency IMHO

Most of the time when I pretend to press a few buttons and tell the drummer to wait a minute before I say okay, let's try again -- the problem magically disappears. But I hear ya, too much latency makes delay which ruins the groove. That however happens closer to 10ms than 5ms
