Default Protools 11 / Mac Compatibility List question

Hi, my 3,1 MP is not supported (and I'm having issues/crashes/cpu overloads etc), so I'm purchasing a 5,1 from the PT11 computer compatibility list. http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...pple-Computers (click the Mac Pro tab)

I'm getting this machine exactly:
2010 Mac Pro
Model Identifier: 5,1
Processor Family: "Westmere"
Qualified Models:
8-core 2.4 GHz

My question is…
Next to this machine it states PT 11 native software is compatible. But it does not say later updates are (ie. 11.1.2/3 & 11.2). Next to the newer machines (above) they DO specifically list compatibility with 11.1.2 11.1.3 & 11.2. Can anyone from Avid confirm that I should be using the 1st version of PT11 and not the updated versions with this particular machine?

Thanks!

If a mac model is not listed on that page, that means it was not tested and qualified.

Same with the information on this page:
Pro Tools Operating System Compatibility Chart

Officially Tested/Qualified configurations. That doesn't necessarily mean that other configs won't work (unless stated otherwise), but what was tested and qualified.

Okay thanks. Is there any reason those 3 machines (listed on the bottom table) were tested and approved as compatible with PT 11 software, but then not tested again with the 11.1.2, 11.1.3 & 11.2 updates?

I don't know, but I can ask on Monday.
In the meantime, you might want to click on the Google the Forum link in forum header and try a search for "2010 Mac Pro" including the quote marks to see if there are other users with the specific model you are looking at.

I appreciate that Bruce! I need stability asap on PT11, so I'm looking for options asap.

You might just try more memory (16GB or better)
(As well on the newer MP if you choose to go there)

Just as an aside, I'm running a 3.1 Mac Pro with 16gb ram on 10.9.3 with PT 11.1.2 and it's rock solid, so I'd guess that the 5.1 Mac Pro will be fine - given you up the ram.

Thanks, guys. I ordered the 5,1 MP (24 GB RAM). I didn't think to try Mavericks on the 3,1 (thought I read it wasn't compatible). Damn... now you got me second guessing this 5,1 purchase. 2 years newer, guess it can't be bad a thing.
