Default Oxford Chipset Firewire drives

Hi Guys I'm looking for a Oxford Chipset firewire drives for my post audio set up at home.
I know people have recommended OWC cases, but they are a little hard to get in Australia, unless I mail order.

Does the seagate FreeAgent™ Pro support the required oxford chipset ???? there is nothing on there website??

Any other recommendations?

OWC are just branded OEM cases from macpower (http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/). Maybe you can find those in Australia. Might also be cheaper than the branded ones from OWC.

Avastore are branded OEM cases from Sarotech. Look for Sarotech. Will save you some $$ compared to the Avastores. They are identical except for the plastic transport case that comes with them if you buy from avastor.

Avoid the macpower "plaeiades"-type of cases and the macmini-type cases (very poor quality plastic). The plaeiades look cool but are a pain the open. You have to unscrew 25 tiny screws. I like Sarotech Hardbox very much. Internal power-suply (no wall-warts tangled up in your bag) and small fan for longer life and you can change the drive in 30 seconds because the housing can be opened without any screws.

Sarotechs are Oxford and so are Macpower cases.

frank.

Hey there ...

You might want to try the Fire-N-Ice FireWire drives:

http://www.thinkcp.com/products/Firewireusb2desktop.asp

We have two. They still run Oxford 911 bridges as far as I know. Very reliable for us (outlasted 3 LaCies FWIW).

Got ours from the local Mac retailer in your part of the world.

Kind regards,

Hey, Sound Devices have them on the shelf in various configurations/sizes. You can get a 250GB Hard Box FW400 (with Oxford chip) for approx $200 AUD. Go and see them, or email. They're usually very helpful. They're situated in Sussex St. Sydney CBD.

Cheers, Phil

The Glyphtech cases are Oxford with Seagates inside.
