Default Poor service these days, or is it me?

Take only the last week:

I buy a rechargable battery that's meant to run a portable DVD for 4 to 6 hours. It conks out after an hour.

I ordered the latest Good Charlotte album on the net. They send me the single.

I bought a Mackie Baby Hui. When i get it home I can hear a loose screw rolling around inside, so I'll have to take it back.

These days I find this to be typical. At least half of everything I buy is defective, doesn't arrive, or not what was ordered.

So, is it just me?

Karel,

I might end up sounding like a geezer here, but people nowadays don't have the same work ethic that folks did 15 years ago. Equipment has poor quality control, fast food drive-throughs absolutely *cannot* get a single order correct, you can't always trust a person to do what they say anymore. It's terrible. Younger people have grown up into this work ethic as it is and they tend to carry it on. Before anyone flames me, there are exceptions. Ahh, don't get me started........

That certainly is true. But that's not what I mean. The staff can be good (or i won't go back) and almost always they're happy to exchange. In fact, the problem is usually out of their control. It just seems that quality control has now been passed over to the consumer (if the consumer can be bothered! - all too often they'll just accept something defective). This seems to be the way our culture is going. The only way to reverse it would be to somehow force companies to pay a penalty for defective goods.

Hah! Dream on, eh?

Good point. Software is a good example of that. Let the consumers find the bugs and then we will issue a bug fix and maybe give it for free or charge for an update......

I totally agree. It no longer seems to be unethical for companies to post false specs of their products. It no longer seems to be which company produces honest results, but which company can out lie the other company and get away with it.

If i go to a nice steak place and order a $20+ dollar steak...i expect a good steak the way i ordered it. Half of the time when i order it medium, i get it well done. The other half the steak has that unchewible fattie streak through the middle, and then the place looks at me funny when i say i want a new steak...like it is my fault for not being happy with their sorry job.

This goes for most everything these days. My folks just purchased a new fridge about a year ago because they are worried about their old one (about 20 years old) going out any time now. In the year they have replaced half of the most important components on the new fridge because they were not working satisfactorially as advertised. Even after all the work, the new fridge from the same company, does not work nearly as well as the old fridge. They are lucky if they can fill 4 glasses full of ice for dinner after not using any ice the whole day. Most of the time when the whole family is home they have to go out and get most of the ice from our old fridge which is still working like a champ.

You mentioned how fast food resturants dont hardly speak english out west. Well down here in the south you are luckf if you can understand the 'english' from the preson taking your order. They just dont care to communicate to you properly (lack of respect), and really dont care if you get what you ordered and pay for.

We live in a very sad day and time. Almost the worst thing is that folks just let these places walk all over them. If people actually demanded what they paid for and ordered i think that we would see some results.

Christian
