Default PT9 and Onyx 820i problems

I am in desperate need of help. My computer was just upgraded to a new macbook pro. Yes that is typically a big hurray, but not when it comes to getting everything to work again. I have installed PT 9 and it works fine. I also purchase a new mackie onyx 820i to use as a new interface.

The PT9 runs fine. However when using the mackie, it is recognized in the hardware setup, but when selecting and input in the track, nothing shows. Therefore I cannot arm the track and have no input to PT9.

I have a huge project on the table, and I cannot record anything. The timing of this upgrade was not my idea. It was a "here is your new computer, and give us the old one". I work in education. The new macbook has a firewire 800 input. I am using that input.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

check list..

in playback engine: the onyx is selected as the audio engine/interface

In setup/hardware setup: the inputs are set for analogue 1-8

In the I/O setup page: the inputs have been created? 1-2 as a stereo input and sub paths for mono 1 and mono 2 etc. and the boxes are ticked to activate these inputs. then the same for inputs 3-4 / 5-6 and 7-8 etc.

Or you could just try setting the hardware setup and the i/o setup to default!!!

Here in lies the problem. Once I select the onyx in the playback engine, it says:

The selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized. Please choose another audio device.

I cannot figure out why this is happening. The onyx works fine in all aspects with the computer. It a conflict somewhere in PT or with what it is looking for.
