Default Front end Latency issue w/ Pro tools on a PC

Dear Forum,

I need a little help. Being mainly a MAC guy and wanting to use Gigastudio and other PC base synth plugins, I bought a Dell Dimension 8400 to run these programs. The Dell is a 3.4 Gighz Intel model using Windows XP, 1 gig ram , 160 gig hard drive. I'm running pro tools 6.4 LE thru the original MBox. Synth Plugin's are all using rewire thru Pro Tools. As a MIDI controller I have my old Yamaha SY77 (A synth I dearly love) into a Midsport/USB box then into the DELL. I can get the SY77 to talk to ProTools using this setup but I am experiencing a latency issue where the delay in striking the keys causes any overdubs to be out of time with the previously recorded tracks. Can't figure it out. I will listen to playback and hit a note on the controller but there is a delay before it sounds in the cans. I have tried playing with the knobs on the front of the MBox to compensate ( the input playback knob) but am thinking there is something internal with the DELL or Pro-TOOLS to correct this issue. Any Suggestions?

thanks Chris

You need to make sure you are using a low H/W Buffer setting for tracking.
