Exclamation Win764 9.03-9.06 upgrade -1167 HD Native Card firmware errors - need help

Win764 9.03-9.06 upgrade -1167 firmware update fails to update HD Native card errors - need help
By now you know what this is and many people have dealt with it, I am ready to remedy the problem and move on.
Someone please post the exact way to fix this issue for all of the folks who will hit this roadblock thanks.

Ok listed below are the suggestested fixes listed by Tech support:
What is the real way to fix it ?
I read that I need to put my Native Card into a Mac and do the updates then put it back in my Win7 box.
Ok so if this is the only way to get past the hurdle what OS does the Mac need to have to get it to work?
and If the Mac does not have PT on it how will the install proceed?

The Error:

Quote:
Unexpected error occurred while transmitting a firmware image. Error found while verifying the write was done correctly . Error 1167:
Occurs with firmware 1.0 (Mac and Windows support) while updating to Pro Tools version 9.0.4 (firmware 1.02, Mac only support) or Pro Tools 9.0.5 (firmware 1.03, Mac and Windows support)

Suggested Resolutions

* With a MacBook Pro: MacOS X 10.6.7 (10j3331a) works; MacOS X 10.6.7 (10j4139) does not work.
•Upgrade to Pro Tools 9.0.5 using a non-Thunderbolt MacBook Pro and OS 10.6.7* or lower.
•Alter HD Native card slot order arrangement
•Attempt the update numerous times in a row by re-launching Pro Tools.
•Contact Avid Audio Technical Support on the repair line: http://www.avid.com/US/support/support-contact

Thumbs up Re: Win764 9.03-9.06 upgrade -1167 errors - SOLVED

The tested repair method that works:

While trying to remedy the fact that my Native Card firmware update hung up during installation of 1.03 from 1.0 and locked me out of the Native Card...

After the NativeCardFlasher.exe did not work and the PTHD 9.06 installer did not work I got the upgrade to PTHD 10.2 .
I then uninstalled the 9.06 from control panel rebooted installed PTHD 10.2 and the process of updating the firmware worked as it was supposed to.

TIP: the way I did this was to only uninstall the PTHD 9.06 software in Control Panel, when dialog asked to unistall drivers during uninstall I said yes, I did not uninstall anything else.

So.. stay on 9.03 OR update all the way to PTHD10.2 for your Native Card to remain functioning? you tell me.

I read from a poster that you would have to uninstall 9.06 and reinstall 9.03 to roll back the firmware to an older version to get it to work again.

Keep in mind that the Card itself has been corrupted by the firmware update cancelling halfway through so this is a hardware level problem which in my case was fixed by having the hardware "talk" to the latest driver which is not a standalone driver that can be installed (IE) it has to be installed WITH PTHD 10.2 because when I tried to update the driver manually in device manager it gave me a no go with 9.06 installed. Keep in mind that I did not delete the driver first - I just tried to update it.
It would be a guessing game to uninstall the PT9 driver and try to install the PT10 driver while running PT9 but this might work for someone at the end of their rope with no options left - I suggest upgrading to 10.2 and not going down this road.

I am guessing here, but I think the PTHD 10.2 driver works with the FlashUpdater 1.03 and the PT 9.06 Driver fails to update firmware and corrupts the software on the Native card, until you upgrade to PTHD 10.2
then its all good.

The old myth was that you would have to pull the card and stick it into a Mac to update it - unproven fix that just might work if you are in a bind.

Solved.
