would a digi 001 work with...?

Im aware that the digi 001 interface has been discontinued although I found one for $300. It comes with PT 6.4 and the pci card. Since Im new at this (and a student = broke) I am considering buying it. My question is - will it work on my Mac? I have a dual G4 450mhz (not the PCI Graphics model) with plenty of memory and hard drive space. I figured this would be a good start for me and a way to get my "feet wet." Should I go for it or should i save a bit more $ and get an mBox? Would the mBox work with this mac?
I also read that ProTools 6.4 does not work with OS X 10.3.5 which is what I'm runnning. Do any of you have or had this set up and if yes what do you think of it. If i do get PT 6.4 can I upgrade to a different version that would work with 10.3.5?

i'm using a 001 with a Dual G4 867, pro tools 6.4, and OS 10.3.5 right now and everything works very smoothly.
no worries here and i use this thing/set up at least 2 hours a day.

plus if i remember Mbox does not have its own MIDI I/O. The 001 does

Hi,

the 001 will work fine with this model, heck it´s even a dual CPU one. just be sure to have enough RAM. 1Gig or so will be enough.

10.3.5 and 10.3.6 work quite fine with PTLE 6.4 which is what I am running on a G4/AGP (400MhZ accel with CPU upgrade to 1.2GHz)
The issues are mostly related to FirewWire problems. As long as you don´t need them youre fine.

if you have an MBOX it will work as well, plus you can run 6.7 minus the MBOX does not have MIDI interface and you will ´sacrifice´ one USB port for good.

Thanks you guys. I appreciate your inputs. I was a bit unsure of the compatibility between the digi001 and the mac model i own based on what I read on the digi site. I looked under compatibilty for the Digi 001 and Mac and they say that the "weekest" G4 model that would work with the interface is the dual 800 or the single 800. Someone at school told me that my dual 450 G4 would be able to handle it but someone else said that PT wouldnt recognize the second CPU. Not sure if that's true. Thanks again for your help.

And it will work also under MacOS 9. With Soft SampleCell for example.

I ran a gigabit ethernet dual 450 and an 001 for quite a while starting on OS9 and PTLE5+. It worked everytime. You can set your CPU usage to 99% only if you run PTLE 6+. OSX is also dual aware, making the upgrade even easier to swallow. I had a definite performance bump by going to PTLE 6 and Jaguar. I really enjoyed the dual 450 after that and have since installed a dual 1.2gHz upgade and moved to 002 and recently, Panther. No need for a G5 here...yet.

I ran a Digi001 with PTLE 6.x (OSX) for quite a while on a single 450Mz G4. I have upgraded with a faster processor. At 450, it worked fine. But I don't do a lot of tracks, so I don't know what it's limits would be.
