Pro Tools 9 on OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8
DETAILS:
Computer: 17-inch iMac (2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/2 GB of RAM/1TB HDD) Operating System: Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8 Sequencer: Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.5 Audio Interface: M-Audio Fast Track Pro Preamp: ART Tube MP/C MIDI Controllers: M-Audio Ozone/Akai MPK Mini/NanoKontrol2 Microphone: M-Audio Luna (MK1) Reference Monitors: Fostex PMO.4n Headphones: Shure SRH440 & Bose Around-Ear Headphones Hello, my name is David Anthony aka DaveSanity and I am an emcee/engineer/producer. I work with acoustic artists and other urban recording artists, as well. My goal is to to upgrade Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.5 to Pro Tools 9, primarily because I would like to upgrade my M-Audio Fast Track Pro to the Steinberg UR22. However, the minimum system requirements for Pro Tools 9 is 2 GB of RAM; 4 GB recommended. First of all, is my operating system even compatible with Pro Tools 9? And, will my computer be able to handle it? This is what the system requirements say: "System Software: Snow Leopard: Mac OS X 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4, 10.6.5, 10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8 (32 or 64-bit)" and "Pro Tools 9.0 and 9.0.1 not tested with 10.6.7 and higher" So, as you can see, I'm a tad confused. It states that Pro Tools 9 is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, then it says that Pro Tools 9.0 and 9.1 has not been tested with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The only other sequencer I would consider is Logic Pro, but I would like to stick to Pro Tools, because I earned my Pro Tools Specialist Certificate from Berkleemusic.com; thus, it would make more sense if I just stuck with it. I also plan on getting SampleTank 2 XL and Melodyne Assistant sometime down the road, as well, so keep that in mind. Any help is greatly appreciated and don't hesitate to ask if you need more information. Thank you. :) Check out my music at (Everything you hear was recorded with the Luna > FTP): http://davesanity.bandcamp.com http://reverbnation.com/davesanity http://youtube.com/dsstudios519 http://facebook.com/davesanity519 |

Quote:
Your computer isn't incredibly fast by today's standards, but will probably get the job done fine. PT9 will perform similar to PT8, so if you are happy with the performance you currently have, you'll be able to use PT9 the same. The main advantage to PT9 is the ability to use any brand audio interface, not just m-audio or digidesign LE interfaces.

Thanks for the reply, brother. I'm looking at this bundle on eBay, as well:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Steinberg-UR2...item2a34bdd56f How would you compare Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.5 to Cubase 7 AI on my Mac for vocals/acoustics? I only need 32 tracks at the most. |
